Dear Sir or Madame,
We are working on a research project funded by the European Commission intended to improve the competitiveness of small and medium enterprises (SME). The aim of the ALGADISK project is to develop a reactor system that uses biofilm technology and rotating biological contractors to grow micro algae.
The new method will operate in the aqueous phase and the algae will be produced on disks. The discs will be coated with a biocompatible surface and they are partially immersed in liquid media that contains all nutrients essential for algae growth. Partial submersion will allow each disc to contact both the liquid and gas phases of the system. By precisely regulating parameters (i.e., disc rotation speed, temperature, pH) algae can be grown in a controlled manner, and capture CO2 either from the liquid phase or directly from the gas phase. This method will dramatically increase growth efficiency and will minimize water requirements, as algae abundance is not limited by aqueous concentration.
The project started on the 1st of January 2012 and has duration of three years. As a first step the ALGADISK consortium prepared this survey in order to gain more information on the needs of the market and through the feedback prepare the targeted system specification. The new technology is aimed to benefit the whole biomass production sector and the results of the project will be shared between the members of the participating associations (EUBIA & CESFAC). Due to the wide impact that has been proposed it is vital to get as much and as accurate information from the industry.
The questionnaire has been developed that after filling in the first few questions only relevant questions to your business will be asked. This will ensure that the survey can be filled in very efficiently.
Your responses are most valuable for us and in return we will be happy to send you the outcome of our finding as it should contain useful information for your business as well.
Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.
Should you need any further information about the above subject, please do not hesitate to contact us.
